PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Jordan Berman is on the hunt for Mr. Right. The only wrinkle is each of his trio of close girlfriends are  beating him to the altar! As singles’ nights turn into bachelorette parties, and his inner circle warps beyond expectation, Jordan must learn to navigate his newfound isolation while showing up as the companion his friends deserve.

AUDITION PROCESS

Kentwood Players is committed to fostering an inclusive environment, and encourages actors of all racial and ethnic backgrounds, abilities and identities to audition.

Appointments are not necessary for in-person auditions, but allow time to sign in and complete any required paperwork during scheduled audition times. Bring a current headshot, resume, and your calendar. A rehearsal schedule will be posted, and you will be asked to note any potential conflicts.

Auditioners should prepare two contrasting contemporary monologues from published plays, 1-2 minutes each. You may be asked to present only one; be prepared to make adjustments as requested.

Video submissions will be accepted. Actors submitting virtually should email their headshot, resume, and footage of both contrasting contemporary monologues. Please also indicate any general conflicts during the rehearsal period (May 13-July 9, Monday through Thursday 7:00 to 10:00 pm, occasional Fridays). Submit materials to significantother@kentwoodplayers.org no later than Saturday, May 9, 9:00 pm. Virtual auditioners are expected to be available for in person callbacks.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

Jordan Berman (male presenting, late 20’s)

Jordan is a gay, chronically single, Jewish man looking for love. New Yorker. He’s a romantic to his core with a well-developed sense of irony. Neurotic, keenly perceptive and hopelessly sensitive, he has a penchant for scrutinizing every romantic encounter with a fine-tooth comb. Actor must have ease and facility with language, strong comic skills, and access to truthful emotional life.

Laura (female presenting, late 20’s)

Jordan’s best friend for life. She’s an emotional anchor to all, a constant comfort and nurturing presence within the friend group. Ambitious, intelligent, funny, and nursing a quiet loneliness akin to Jordan’s.

Vanessa (female presenting, late 20’s)

Black American. Vanessa is a stylish, intelligent New Yorker with a finely-honed dry sense of humor. Meeting Roger transforms her, and she gives herself over to a newfound optimism.

Kiki (female presenting, late 20’s)

Jewish. Kiki is a brashly hilarious, speaks-her-mind, stylish, life-of-the-party kind-of-woman. In all moments, you can count on her to be 150% herself.

Helene Berman (female presenting, 70s-80s)

Jewish. Jordan’s grandmother. Lives on Long Island. A force of nature even as her memory recedes. Loves Jordan fiercely. Her wisdom and wit quell Jordan’s insecurities in the way only a grandmother can.

Will/Conrad/Tony (male presenting, late 20’s)

Will: Jordan’s very attractive co-worker. Can seem a bit aloof but then can sparkle with unexpected warmth.

Conrad: Kiki’s significant other. A bit of an oaf, a bit dull, lacks a real sense of humor, is crazy about Kiki.

Tony: Laura’s significant other. Projects instant warmth. A really good guy.
Actor must have strong comic chops and great flexibility as a character actor.

Zach/Evan/Roger (male presenting, late 20’s)

Zach: Jordan’s date. Warm, smart, interested in Jordan but conflicted emotionally because he’s not over his ex.

Evan: Jordan’s fabulous and dramatic co-worker. Always at the scene of the crime.

Roger: Vanessa’s significant other. A stand-up guy. Adores Vanessa.
Actor must have strong comic chops and great flexibility as a character actor.
