Following successful year with sold out productions of “Avenue Q,” “Legally Blonde,” and “The Little Mermaid,” Cupcake Theater has closed it’s doors during it’s current production of “RENT.” Citing personal and familial concerns, proprietor Michael Pettenato made the difficult decision to pull the current production, and shut the theater doors. There is still hope this may be a temporary decision.

In the meantime “TheatreSourceLA,” has decided to try and take over the abruptly closed “RENT” and move it to new Skiptown Playhouse venture “The Cat’s Crawl,” and beautiful 100 seat theater located in East Hollywood. There is currently a gofundme available to donate to. We hope we are able to keep the show alive, as well as begin producing more live theatre in the coming year.

This year has been aberrant year for musical theater in Los Angeles, with theaters such as Candlelight Pavilion, Glendale Center Theater, Cupcake Theater as well as rumors of more closings. The small glimmer of hope is news of several new theaters (including The Cat’s Crawl) opening for business.
